1955 Princeton
Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879, in Ulm, Germany, the son of businessman Hermann Einstein and his wife Pauline. Beginning in 1896, Einstein studied to become a mathematics and physics teacher at the Technical College in Zurich. In 1900, he earned his diploma as an instructor of mathematics and physics. Einstein worked as a technical examiner at the Swiss Federal Office for Intellectual Property (patent office) in Bern from 1902 until 1909. Two years later, he then went to the university in Prague as a full professor. Einstein was appointed to the Prussian Academy of Science in Berlin on April 1, 1914. He formulated the general theory of relativity in October 1915. Around 1920, Einstein began receiving much hostility in Germany because of his research and his Jewish heritage. On January 30, 1933, the day the National Socialist Party came to power in Germany, Einstein was in Pasadena, California. He protested the violations of human rights in Germany and resigned his position at the Prussian Academy of Science. He then resettled in the United States. Albert Einstein died on April 18, 1955, in Princeton, New Jersey.
