Jost Amman
Biography
Jost (Jodocus) Amman was born in 1539 in Zurich. Amman came to Nuremberg in 1561 and received citizenship there in 1577. He is considered one of the most important and productive illustrators and woodcutters of his time. Amman's woodcuts can be recognized by the elegant, mannered slenderness of the figures. The artist also composed technical and theoretical writings on art. Amman died in March 1591 in Nuremberg.
