Emil Preetorius
Biography
The scenic designer Emil Preetorius was born in Mainz on 21 June 1883. The artist was one of the most significant scenic designers of the first half of the 20th century. Emil Preetorius first successfully studied law and art history in Gießen. In 1909 Preetorius and Paul Renner founded the Schule für Illustrationen und Buchgewerbe. He became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1928. Between 1953 and 1968 Preetorius was the president of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. The artist died in Munich on 27 January, 1973.
