In 1548 Giordano Bruno (originally named Filippo Bruno) was born in Nola in Italy. Bruno studied the Trivium in Naples and entered the Dominican Order in 1563. He came to Venice in 1592 where his student G. Mocenigo denounced him to the Inquisition. As a result, he was arrested on 23 May, 1592 and sent to Rome in 1593 where he was imprisoned for seven years. Bruno was finally declared a heretic and sentenced to death. He was brought to Campo di Fiore, a central Roman market square and burned at the stake on 17 February 1600. Intellectuals like Spinoza, Leibniz, Herder, Goethe, Schelling, Schopenhauer et alia, were greatly influenced by his ideas. Bruno's main works are: De la causa, principio, et uno (1584), Dell'infinito universo e mondi (1584), De triplici minimo (1591) and De monade, numero et figura. De immenso et innumerabilibus (1591).
