Guillaume Appollinaire

Guillaume Apollinaire was born as Wilhelm Apollinaris de Kostrowitsky on August 26, 1880, in Rome. In 1899, he settled in Paris, where he published several smaller magazines. During this time, Apollinaire associated with such personalities as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. His collection of essays "Les peintres cubistes" ("The Cubist Painters"), published in 1913, is considered exceptionally important; it brought much attention to the cubism movement. Guillaume Apollinaire died on November 9, 1918, in Paris.
