Handzeichnung

The Handzeichnung (hand drawing), also known as an artistic drawing (deviated from the Old High German word "zeichenuga", description or designation), can exist in the form of a preparing drawing, i.e. in the form of a sketch, a study, a draft or as an individual work of art. Drawing instruments can be graphite, pencil, charcoal, chalk or Indian ink. Ball-point pen or felt-tip drawings can be found today. Albrecht Dürer and Hans Holbein the Younger, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raffael, as well as Rubens and Rembrandt are regarded as important illustrators. Artists such as Francisco de Goya gave the Handzeichung an essential stimulus at the end of the 18th century. Under the influence of Cézanne the Handzeichnung was also given a decisive stimulus for the 20th century. With artists such as Matisse, Klee, Picasso, Kirchner, Ernst or Miro the artistic drawing was given an individual significance. After 1945 artists such as Wols, Joseph Beuys and Horst Janssen represented the equivalence of the Handzeichnung compared to other genres.
