Hermann Teuber

Hermann Teuber was born on August 12, 1894, in Dresden. Alongside working as a substitute teacher, Teuber attended various art courses beginning in 1914. Two years later, he was drafted into military service. In 1919, Teuber enrolled in the Dresden School of Applied Arts. From 1922 until 1926, he studied at the College of Arts under Hans Meid and Karl Hofer. Teuber settled in Berlin as a freelance artist after finishing his education. He received the Albrecht Dürer Prize for engraving from the city of Nuremberg in 1931. Teuber was a member of the Klosterstraße Studio Society in Berlin from 1935 until 1945. He moved with his family to Kalkar in 1943 but was drafted again in 1944. Teuber was named professor for print graphics at the College of Arts in Berlin in 1950. Teuber received many awards for his graphic works. He and his wife moved to Munich in 1972. The East German Artist Guild gave Teuber the Lovis Corinth Prize in 1977. Hermann Teuber died on October 24, 1985, in Munich.
