Jacques Callot
1592 Nancy
1635 Nancy
Jacques Callot was born in Nancy in 1594. He was gifted with an extraordinary artistic talent. Callot longed to go to Rome, therefore his father sent him to Rome, where he became a student of Ton Giulio Parigi. Callot later went to Florence, where he was taken into the service of the Grand Duke. He received a commission from Ludwig XIII to depict and engrave the seige of Rochelle and the island of Ré in 1628. The artist died in Nancy in 1635.
