1664 Amsterdam
Johannes Janssonius (ca. 1588-1664) was born into a family of publishers and printers. At an early age Janssonius was trained as a printer. In 1612 he married the daugher of Jodocus Hondius and thus became a member of one of the most famous publisher families of the Netherlands. Janssonius further strengthened a publishing house in the field of geography and cartography. Among his major works are the Atlas Majoris Appendix (1639), the six-volume Atlas Novus (1638ff) and the monumental Atlas Major in eleven volumes (1647).
