Josep Lluscà

1948 Barcelona
- lebt und arbeitet in Barcelona -

Josep Lluscà studied industrial design at the Escuela de Diseño Eina in Barcelona and the École des Arts et Métiers in Montreal. From the early 1970s, Josep Lluscà created, as an industrial designer, lighting, furniture, packaging, electrical appliances, and utilitarian consumer wares. Josep Lluscà's designs have been realized by Cassina, Driade, Flos, General Electric, Oken, Permasa, Rosenthal, Sanyo, Sara Lee, and WMF hergestellt. In the 1980s Josep Lluscà became famous worldwide for elegant, meticulously crafted furniture. Like other Spanish designers, Josep Lluscà ensured that his designs were informed by a strong sense of national identity; further, they reveal the influence of Antonio Gaudí's work. For Andreu World, Josep Lluscà designed "Andrea", a superlatively shaped, thoroughly styled, elegant aluminium chair, with a seat option of either laminated wood or plastic, in 1986. For Oken Josep Lluscá designed the "Lola" seat furniture line in 1989. The 1992 "Faventia" chaise longue is another Josep Lluscà creation for Oken, with asymmetrical, softly fluid forms inspired by 1950s design. With the silversmith Joaquín Berao, Josep Lluscà designed the "Ketupa" lamp for Metalarte in 1989. Josep Lluscá has received numerous international design awards, including the National Design Prize in 1990. From 1985 to 1987 Josep Lluscà was deputy chairman of ADI-FAD (Asociación de Diseño Industrial del Fomento de las Artes Decorativas); further, he was a co-founder of the Spanish ADP (Asociación de Diseñadores Profesionales). Josep Lluscà teaches industrial design at the Escuela de Diseño Eina in Barcelona.
