Oscar Tusquets Blanca
Biography
Oscar Tusquets Blanca, Spanish architect and designer, attended the Escuela de Artes y Oficios de la Llotja in Barcelona from 1954 until 1960. He subsequently attended the Barcelona Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura from 1958 until 1965. With former fellow students the architects and industrial designers Pep Bonet, Christián Cirici, and Lluís Clotet, Oscar Tusquets Blanca founded Studio PER in 1964. In 1972 the members of Studio PER founded B.D. Ediciones de Diseño, a firm to make the furnishings and designer objects they as well as other contemporary designers created; in addition, B.D. Ediciones reissued objects by Antonio Gaudí and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. In 1972 Oscar Tusquets Blanca and Lluís Clotet designed "Regás", a house in Gerona that is thought to be one of the first Postmodernist buildings. That same year Oscar Tusquets Blanca published a Spanish edition of Robert Venturi's seminal book "Learning from Las Vegas", which made an important contribution to the theory of Postmodernist and Deconstructivist architecture. Studio PER was acclaimed worldwide for its quirky architecture and interior design. "Fullá", a house in Barcelona, dates from 1967-1970. In 1974 Oscar Tusquets Blanca designed a wing for the Salvador Dalí Museum in Figueras. As an industrial designer, Oscar Tusquets Blanca created furniture, lighting, and household objects for Driade, Ritzenhoff, Alessi, and other firms. In 1983 Oscar Tusquets Blanca designed a four-piece tea and coffee service for the Alessi "Tea & Coffee Piazza" project. The "Gaulino" chiar is a 1987 Oscar Tusquets Blanca design that proclaims the influence of Gaudí's formal language. As is typical of many designers in Spain, Oscar Tusquets Blanca's designs are rooted in the Catalan identity and the rich cultural legacy of the city of Barcelona.
