Oskar Moll had been a fried of the industrialist Hermann Harkort from Wetter/Ruhr since 1893. There is proof for a visit of the Moll family to the Harkort family in 1907. This work was made around Schloss Höhenrath near Grafrath in Upper Bavaria, where the artist stayed between 1903 and 1905.
We are grateful to Dr. Gerhard Leistner (Regensburg), who continues and updates the catalog raisonné of Oskar Moll, for his kind support in cataloging this lot.
PROVENANCE: Sammlung Harkort, Haus Schede, Herdecke.
Oskar Moll at firsat studied biology, however, he discontinues his studies in 1893. He refuses academic training and continues his education in art in the studios of Walter Leistikow and Ulrich Hübner. From 1900 to 1903 he works in the studio of Lovis Corinth. His works from the following years are characterized by an impressionist style with a dynamic and short stroke of the brush. Landscapes remain his preferred subjects throughout his life. [EH].
