Willi Baumeister‘s oeuvre of drawings shows an artistic development coined by abstraction and enigmatic contents. His graphic sheets "[..] possess an array of amorphous-figurative archaic relief structures, in dialog, landscape-like, hovering, in motion, 'metaphysic‘, grave, mysterious, primeval. History and spirituality of mankind, as memento in a historic situation shaken in its foundation. The artist‘ late period of creation was coined by this clandestine yet euphoric process of creation." (Transl. of quote after Dietmar J. Ponert, Willi Baumeister, Stuttgart 1988, p. 28). [KP].
