Calling reminiscence of the lithograph "Vogelkomödie" from 1918 in In terms of formal composition and image elements, this feather drawing is fully determined by the character of scurrile elements which play a prime role in both Paul Klee‘s oeuvre of graphics and drawings. Stick figure and bird-like creatures inhabit the sheet, which is document of the merry and easy mood Klee must have been in at this time. The thoroughly balanced composition can be seen in a series of events in which ships play a decisive role. Paul Klee told the story simple and playful adding a pinch of humor, its deeper meaning, however, presumably was only understood by insiders. To us, the detailed feather drawing simply is a document of a subtle creativity.
