After the oil painting "Kerze" from 1982, however, miror-inverted. Richter initially used the motif for a poster of his solo show at the 'Mönchehaus-Museum für moderne Kunst' in Goslar in 1988. Instead of the white letters, a large signature was put on the sheet. Published by 'Verein zur Förderung moderner Kunst e.V. (at Mönchehaus-Museum für moderne Kunst), Goslar 1988. [KP].

The usage of photographic models is a leitmotif in Gerhard Richter's oeuvre of paintings. The "Atlas" becomes an important auxiliary means, a sort of systematic collection of images, in terms of its structure it resembles Aby Warburg's picture atlas "Mnemosyne". In all its unique entirety, the model for the "Kerze" is on one of this plates.
