LITERATURE: Paul Wember. Yves Klein, Cologne 1969, presumably IKB 148, p. 74.

"What today is generally perceived as a painting, is to me like the window of a cell, its lines, contours, forms and composition set up barriers. To me lines are the concretion of our moribundity, our sentimentality, our intellect and even of our spirituality. It is our psychological barriers, our heritage, our education, our skeleton, our burden, our quest, our qualities, our trickiness! Colors on contrary bathe in cosmic sensitivity. To me sensitivity has no niches. Its like air moisture. Color is materialized sensitivity. Color bathes in everything and bathes everything." (quote after: Sidra Stich, Yves Klein, Stuttgart 1994, p. 67). Yves Klein compares his monochrome pictures with windows without grilles, they do not represent anything, show no components, they neither mean nor categorize anything. The color helps his pictures to a poetic statement that delivers an account of the act of creation. As the work does not follow any traditional iconography and is devoid of narrative content, the observer is released from the force to decode or analyze it.
