PROVENANCE: Private ownership U.S.A.

Watercolors that Erich Heckel made in the 1920s show the spontaneous panache that made his works from before World War I so special. The graphic duct is firm and decisive, the compact forms deliver proof of a sense of standardization that made for the tenor of his works from the expressionist era. However, the coloring already hints at the transition his artistic creation would undergo. Erich Heckel's feel for an effective composition is clearly traceable in the arrangement of this composition.
