At the beginning of the 1980s, Uecker develops a series of works on the subject “Verletzungen” (injuries). They are to be understood both in a Christian context and as symbols of apocalyptic landscapes. In an active gesture of force Uecker deconstructs the perfection and flawlessness of the nail arrangement violating and abruptly lifting the canvas surface that protects the image corpus. Despite or even due to this deformation, the protective function of the nails that project beyond the corpus is preserved. Günther Uecker's particular artistic achievement consists in his ability to permanently develop new interpretations and works with his once found stylistic devices, works that not only fulfill aesthetic desires, but are also deeply linked to the human existence.
