Cornelius Völker doubtlessly is one of the biggest representatives of German contemporary art. Soon after he had completed his studies the young artist became established in the art scene. His works, including those on paper, are documents of a painter with a great feel for paint and brush. In different stylistic realms between figuration and abstraction Cornelius Völker renders simple everyday life subjects: chocolate bars and hairstyles, plasters and guinea pigs, straws and teabags. What makes Völker's pictures so special is his almost playful perspective on the subject. The choice of unusual details is typical of his art, they surprise the observer and invite to develop the picture's narration. Once more, one thing becomes obvious: the blank spots that Cornelius Völker knows to stage so well are the gist of his art. With his artistic talent, a poised stroke of the brush and an eye for thrilling compositions Cornelius Völker succeeds in taking even the most trivial motif to the rank of a great artwork.
