The campaign "16 Artists for Freedom of Expression" in context of the presidential election in the USA in 1996 was supported by Ida Applebroog, Jennifer Bartlett, Jim Dine, Jimmie Durham, Leon Golub, Red Grooms, Jenny Holzer, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Mitchell, Elizabeth Murray, Edwin Schlossberg, Julian Schnabel, Cindy Sherman, Nancy Spero, Carrie Mae Weems and William Wegman. Under the protectorate of 'Artists for Freedom of Expression' they raised funds for candidates and organisations that supported financial aids for artists. The sheet shows that Roy Lichtenstein was a politically active artist.
