In 1907 Emil Nolde began to explore the lithography technique. The first known lithograph shows a landscape, in the following portraits became the dominating subject, in the following it was extended to full figure scenes with several persons. Additionally, the colored lithoraph is regarded an important intermediate step on the way to the color lithograph, of which Nolde made first proofs in summer 1913. [SM]
