Private collection Rhineland.

Erich Heckel remained true to his energized style of painting, of which this watercolor is a wonderful example, until the late twenties. The composition's character is less made up by the underlying India ink drawing than by the poised application of colors. Heckel painted with a bold stroke of the brush that calls reminiscence of his earlier creations. [KD]
