• Characteristic landscape composition by one of the most important Worpswede artists.
• Tender evening mood in melancholic coloring and transparent-foggy paint application typical of the artist's late phase.
• Otto Modersohn and his Worpswede artist colleagues are considered style-defining for a new, intuitive landscape painting and as pioneers of Modernism in Germany.
• The evening moods of Modersohn particularly impressed Rainer Maria Rilke, who also in stayed in Worpswede for some time

The work is registered in the catalog raisonné of Otto Modersohn's Late Works with the number WV-OM-SW 1938 Nr. 80: Torfaufladen Kanal (according to the studio book Otto Modersohn 1933-1943).
