Kreuzweg am Taunus. 1963.
Watercolor and ink brush.
Signed in lower right, inscribed with the work number "6344" in lower left. Dated, titled and innscribed "65/80" on the reverse. On firm P. M. Fabriano watercolor paper (with the watermark). 49.7 x 70.3 cm (19.5 x 27.6 in), the full sheet. [CH].

• Large-size and expressive landscape depiction.
• In his late creative period "Schmidt-Rottluff once more let the colors glow" (Magdalena M. Moeller).
• The bright yellow path cuts through the idylic, grass-green Taunus landscape like a symbol, guiding the observer's eye into the picture's depth.
• With strong and rich high contrast primary colors and gently swung forms, as well as with uncolored blank spaces, the great expressionist delivers proof of his mastery in this work
.

The watercolor is documented in the archive of the Karl and Emy Schmidt-Rottluff Foundation Berlin.
