In comparison with the preceding work from 1614, this work was increased by 25 new maps and 3 maps and plans in the text as well as by 350 woodcuts in the text. Rare complete copy. At hand are two world maps, America, Asia, Africa and East Asia, Holy Land, as well as regional maps of Europe, with Greece, Italy, Dalmatia and Croatia, Bohemia, Scandinavia, 3 maps of the Rhine, Sumatra etc. - With views of Paris, Bordeaux, Rome (several), Venice, Verona, Florence, Parma, Cologne, Speyer, Worms, Koblenz, Ulm, Meissen, Lubeck, Lüneburg, Frankfurt, London, Lisbon, Vienna, Copenhagen, Geneva, Bern, Basle, Strasbourg, Constantinople, Cairo, Jerusalem, the multiple folding large view of Heidelberg and much more, also sea monster and ship. - Münster's large cosmography was first released in 1544 and covers mostly German regions (numerous further views in the text), but also European and other regions (extensively Asia and America). The descriptions, based on sources by well-known scholars, also contain accounts (with illustrations) on unicorns, dragons and other legendary creatures and people. Also showing exotic animals such as elephant, rhino, crocodile, baboon, camel, ostrich et al. - Slightly browned and minorly stained in places, engr. title slightly stained in margin and carefully restored in lower corners, bottom of title restored in former times (no loss of printed matter), 3 text ll. with small restored split and small mended defective corner, the multiple folding view of Heidelberg slightly stained in the margin and with restored tear in the folding, affecting the image, another view with small restored tear in the lower white margin. All in all nice and unusually well-preserved and complete copy of this important description of the world with a remarkable provenance. Copy from the Fürstl. Fürstenbergischen Hofbibliothek Donaueschingen (with an old note and 2 small library stamps on both titles).
Complete copy of the last German edition of Munster's Cosmographia, enlarged to 26 maps before the text and 73 views. Engr. title (by M.
