Medium brown contemp. calf. 8vo. 184 (re. 182) pp.Fine copy of the very rare German writing on comets and other celestial phenomena; released on occasion of the discovery of the comet ‘Klinkenberg’ in December 1743 (also "Der Große Komet von 1744"), which was visible with the naked eye until April 1744. This comet is shown in a copper frontispiece in this edition. The other copper plates show many other comets and celestial phenomena. - The work consists to a large extent on the writings of the Alsatian scholar Konrad Lycosthenes (1518-61), whose famous book of prodigies was first printed in Basle in1557. - Spine somewhat rubbed; else well-preserved and clean copy, a great rarity of 18th century comet literature .
