Brücke, Die
Brücke. - Exhibition of the artist group Brücke in Kunstsalon Fritz Gurlitt, Berlin. With 10 orig. woodcuts (incl. wrapper) by Pechstein, Kirchner, Schmidt-Rottluff, Heckel and Müller as well as 1 reproduction after a drawing by O. Müller and 6 reproductions after paintings. Berlin, F. Gurlitt 1912. Blue orig. wrappers with mounted cover vignette in rose with orig. woodcut by E. L. Kirchner. 15 ll. on rose wove paper and 6 art print plates. Ca. 25 : 19,5 cm.

Catalog for the first abd one but last travelling exhibition of the artist group Brücke, extremely rare ; last offered on the German auction market some 30 years ago. - An outstanding document of the Brücke and their early Expressionism, with the two extraordinarily rare woodcuts by Pechstein. The travelling exhibition went from the Galerie Gurlitt in Berlin to the Galerie Commeter in Hamburg. Before the exhibition managed to move on the participating artists were in a dispute which led to Pechstein's exclusion, since he had had a guest exhibition in the Berlin Secession, which is why his woodcuts are only shown in this Berlin catalog, for the exhibiton in the Hamburg Galerie Commeter they were replaced with woodcuts by Heckel and Schmidt-Rottluff. Pechstein's wooducts were made exclusively for this catalog, we have not found proof of them in commerce. The KVK mentions a copy of the complete booklet in possession of the Zurich National Library. - Orig woodcuts printed on thin rose wove paper. - With woodcuts by M. Pechstein: Reiter vor einem Turm und Schwermuth (Krüger H 158 und 159) - E. L. Kirchner: Titelholzschnitt (Dube 727), Schleudertanz (Dube 728) and Toilette (Dube 730) - K. Schmidt-Rottluff: Kämmende Frauen and Sitzendes Mädchen (Schapire 97 and 98) - O. Müller: Drei sitzende Mädchen (Karch 4) - E. Heckel: Badende am Teich and Sich Waschende (Dube 227 and 228). - Slight foxing, rusting staples, first leaves with 2 tears at the staples, backside joint slightly broken. Wrappers slightly stained and with marginal defects due to quality of paper.

Reed 245, 7. - Dok.-Bibl. 86, 101. - Rifkind Coll. 2223 and 2225 (Pechstein), 1452, 1454 and 1455 (Kirchner), 2539 and 2541 (Schmidt-Rottluff), 1026 and 1030 (Heckel) and 2048 (Müller). - Cf. Jentsch 4 (catalog Galerie Commeter).

Rare exhibition catalogue of "Die Brücke" at Galerie Gurlitt, Berlin 1912. With 10 orig. woodcuts (incl. wrappers) by Pechstein, Kirchner, Schmidt-Rottluff, Heckel and Müller. Blue orig. wrappers with woodcut by Kirchner. - Slight foxing, rusting staples, first leaves with 2 tears at the staples, backside joint slightly broken.
