"Magnum Opus." (Hunt) - Erste Ausgabe des opulenten Pflanzenwerkes, hier in der seltenen vollständigen Fassung mit allen 6 Fasciculi und den insgesamt 91 prachtvollen und großformatigen Tafeln. "The book is splendid in its spacious descriptions, its charming exotic plants, its implications for taxonomic history; and fascinating as an imposing piece of eighteenth-century book-making, with its series of fascicles printed on broadsheets, its bibliographical algebra." (Hunt) - Die kräftig und dabei nuancenreich gedruckten Tafeln zeichnen sich durch eine ausgewogene Eleganz in Komposition und Linienführung aus. Zu sehen sind Blätter, Blüten und Samen u. a. von verschiedenen Malvengewächsen, Salbei, Kermesbeerengewächsen und Robinienarten. - Teils schwach stockfleckig, ca. 7 Bll. gebräunt, Vorsätze etw. fleckig, die 2. doppelblattgr. Taf. tlw. wasserrandig. Einband berieben und tlw. bestoßen, 1 Kante mit Quetschfalte. Insgesamt gut erhaltenes breitrandiges Exemplar auf festem Papier.

(Hunt) - With 91(2 double-page) plant coppers, of which 54 after Redouté. Contemp. half calf with red labels and some gilt spine. Folio. - Slightly foxed in places, about7 ll. browned, endpapers somewhat stained, 2nd double-page plate with some water staining. Binding rubbed and scuffed in places, 1 edge squeezed. All in all well-preserved copy with wide margins on firm paper.
