Even though still lifes are a rare motif in Otto Dix' later work, the colorful flower arrangement in the foreground of the scene is characterized by a composition and density typical of still lifes. Just as it is the case with his early works, Dix also takes the liberty of bringing formal principles as paramount elements of meaning to bear in his later compositions. The dynamic of the line management, as well as the colors' rhythm dominate the overall impression. The focus of the full-page pictorially conceived composition is on the almost ornamental structure of the colorul bouquet of lupines. With its position left of the image's center it makes for an interesting contrast to the rather flat figure in right.
