Der Naturforscher und Mikroskopbauer Buonanni (1638-1725) war Schüler Athanasius Kirchers und Inspektor des Museum Kircherianum in Rom. "The Micrographia curiosa includes interesting observations on early microscopes, it gives a precise description of the author's own model and the famous microscopes of the Bolognese instrument-maker, Joseph Campani" (Norman). - Die Tafelanzahl variert bei Vergleichsexemplaren zwischen 68 (Norman) und 70 (Nissen).
