Die erste Ausgabe des berühmten expressionistischen Almanachs, erschienen in 1200 Exemplaren. - "Die Herausgeber Marc und Kandinsky verstanden den Almanach als das Sprachrohr der 'Epoche des Großen Geistigen' wie es im Vorwort von 1911 hieß. Gegen die Zeit der materiellen Kunst des 19. Jahrhunderts wollte man die Kunst des Geistigen setzen." (J. Lammers, im Katalog Vom Jugendstil zum Bauhaus) "The philosophy behind this almanac is one of the most important concepts of the twentieth century art scene" (Reed). - Der Einbandholzschnitt von W. Kandinsky liegt hier noch im zweiten Zustand in den Farben Blau und Schwarz für die kartonierten Exemplare der Erstausgabe vor (Roethel 141/II).

EINBAND: Orig.-Broschur mit Deckelholzschnitt in Blau und Schwarz. 29,5 : 22 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 4 handkolorierten Tafeln (3 montiert) und zahlreichen Abbildungen sowie 3 Musikbeilagen. - ZUSTAND: Vortitel mit kl. Namenszug. Broschur mit geringfügigen Knickspuren und leicht fleckig, Rücken unter Verwendung des ursprünglichen Materials erneuert. Insgesamt sauberes und breitrandiges Exemplar, geschützt durch eine eigens angefertigte Plexiglaskassette. - PROVENIENZ: Süddeutsche Privatsammlung.

First edition of the acclaimed expressionist almanach which was published in a print run of 1200 copies. - Orig. wrappers with cover woodcut in blue and black. 29.5 : 22 cm. With 4 hand-colored plates (3 mounted) and many illustrations and 3 music additions. - Half-title with small name entry. Wrapper with minor creasing and slightly stained, spine renewed using the old material. All in all fine and well-preserved broad-margined copy, in custom-made protective plexiglass case.
