Highest bid

The highest bid or winning bid is the highest price offered for an object while it is being sold at auction. The auctioneer's gavel falls after the highest bid has been called out three times without being topped and the auctioneer has accepted that bid as the highest, meaning that the person who has made that bid has entered on an agreement to buy the object.
