Munich, 09 May, 2011: "Life’s a work of art and every artwork is life", said Emmett Williams. And this is also the concern of the IVth charity auction of the Munich Kindl Foundation on 26 May, 2011, in which art is sold for the benefit of projects that want to improve social opportunities, anti-violence projects or projects that simply provide those in need with food. Starting at 7 p.m., Robert Ketterer will auction some 80 objects of modern and contemporary art for the benefit of children at the Kulti-Kids in Grafinger Str. 6, in 81673 Munich, Germany.
There is not only a lot of creative potential among those works in the auction, but also some real bargains, as all works will be called up with estimates ranging between € 20 and € 50. Besides works by children and young adults, the auction also comprises works by renowned names such as Horst Antes, Elvira Bach, Peter Dittmar, Ernst Fuchs, Sylke von Gaza, Rupprecht Geiger, Erich Heckel, A.R. Penck, H. Riemer, Heidi Schmerber, Vanessa Seuffert, Klaus Soppe, Antoni Tapiès, Mark Tobey, Werner Tübke and Edoardo de Martino (1838-1912, painter at the court of Queen Victoria, numerous works from his œuvre are still in possession of the British royal family).

Additionally, the auction also comprises works by Nam June Paik and Ugo Dossi, two artists that began their career in the Fluxus movement. In Fluxus different elements such as video, music, light, sounds, motions, actions as well as different material were integrated. Fluxus continued and manifested the tradition of Dadaism, which regarded life as art and art as life – all in line with the motto of the charity auction.

Ugo Dossi used the creativity of the unconscious for his art, that means he worked with the phenomenon of conveying emotions and inner images. The observer, however is not just a passive observer. Dossi developed a method to visualize archetypal images from the unconscious. Nam June Paik on the other hand is celebrated as the father of video art. His videos, installations and objects analyze issues like television and (mass) communication in a both critical and yet entertaining manner. He likes to describe himself as individual 'Cultural Terrorist' who does not want get sucked in by the media. Both artists have always been concerned with the impact that the process of artistic creation has on life and not the isolation of art from life. Art is integrated into life in an experimental and playful manner, just as it is the case with Günther Uecker and Otto Piene, founding fathers of the internationally renowned artist group ZERO, and their objects and light-kinetic pictures.

The Munich Kindl Foundation is looking back onto 40 years of tradition and wants to continue helping children and young adults in 2011. Their support includes financial aid for playgrounds, help for children in need and donations to projects for disabled people and other sensible projects. A special concern is the improvement of social inequalities, violence prevention and better chances for disabled children and young adults. The foundation is non-commercial, thus their assets go almost entirely to the recipient, all in line with the foundation’s motto: Children are the future – improving their chances is our mission!
