Zwei Damen am Balkon. 1932.
Pencil drawing.
Signed and dated lower right. With inscription on the reverse. On cream cardboard. 32,5 : 20,9 cm (12,7 : 8,2 in), size of sheet. The painter and printmaker Franz Zureich studied painting and the graphic arts at the Karlsruhe Fine Arts Academy in the 1920s. After being honoured with a state prize for his satirical drawings in 1932, he concentrated on drawing and printmaking. Zureich drew for the Leipziger Illustrierte and had arranged to work for Simplicissimus, but this did not materialise because the magazine was disbanded. Zureich’s talent for searching character study is obvious from the present drawing. [NB]

PROVENIENZ: Private collection South Germany.

Edges partly unevenly minimally trimmed. With minor mount staining. Side edges partially with soft traces of glue, on the right there with superficial paper damages. The reverse of the upper part with paper adhesions, minimally pushing through to the front.
