Ernest Neuschul began training at the Prague, Vienna and Kraków art academies before transferring in 1918 to the Berlin Hochschule für bildende Künste. A member of the “November Group”, Neuschul made the acquaintance of Ludwig Meidner and Arthur Segal. Ernest Neuschul showed work at the Great Berlin Exhibition, the Berlin Secession and various other Berlin art exhibitions. In 1932 he was a visiting professor at the Berlin Hochschule. Only two years later, however, his work was confiscated and he was forced to flee Germany. Neuschul’s paintings are distinguished by a distinctive take on the New Objectivity style that is based on strong light-and-shade contrasts. [NB]
