Jacques Villon‘s mastery in aquatint etchings becomes most obvious in this graphic interpretation. Villon worked for many of his artist colleagues, the spread of his prints also helped to increase their popularity. Besides the well-known subject of Picasso, which originates from a series of illustrations of circus artists, it is particularly the technical mastery with which Villon gets the most out of the subject, making the sheet an unusual graphic document.
