PROVENANCE: Private collection North-Rhine Westphalia.

As of 1952 Gerhard Hoehme studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. The same year he met the later boss of the Düsseldorf Galerie 22, Jean-Pierre Wilhelm, who acquainted him with Jean Fautrier and Jean Dubuffet, the most renowned representative of the Informel in Paris. Particularly under the influence of these artists Hoehme developed his very own Tachism, which he sees less as action-painting and rather as a personal gesture. In fact, he tends to constructed and organized images, in which he makes color spheres and energies visible. Grid-like structures in a well-balanced order enliven the ground in our work. [SM].
