Before Karl Peter Röhl began to work at the Weimar Bauhaus in 1919, he had already spent several years of intense artistic occupation: He received his training at, among others, the Municipal School of Arts and Crafts in Kiel, the Grand Ducal Art School in Weimar as well as at the Museum for Arts and Crafts in Berlin. Our three watercolors originate from Röhl's years at the Bauhaus, in terms of their strong colors and free associative pictorial language they are to be seen in line with Expressionism, making for a clear contrast to the strictly geometric works in Röhl's œuvre.
