Grasender Esel. 1911.
Bronze with dark brown patina. On marble base.
Gabler 163. With artist's name on plinth. Without base: 9,5 x 13 x 4 cm (3,7 x 5,1 x 1,5 in).
Cast by foundry Noack, Berlin. The donkey Fritze was a present from the art dealer Paul Cassirer and presumably moved in with the Gauls around 1907. Fritze inspired Gaul to a series of six works called "Eselei", in which he analyzed different motions of the animal. [KH].

The foundry Noack, Berlin, offers the future owner to attach the foundry mark belatedly. We are grateful for their kind support.
