Baselitz’s works have been coining modern painting since 1960: at first through their provocative illustrations, followed by his fracture pictures, in which he cuts motifs into stripes and joins them again, and finally with his upside-down motifs, which eventually made him world famous. In this sheet Baselitz attained a monumentality of a visionary poignancy in a complex composition of a tamed expressivity, an expressionism of his own, which makes his art so unmistakable. [DB].
