With this small work in lucent colors by Franz Lenk, the observer sees the painters world as he described in an essay from 1931: "While painting I still wander through landscape picture. I walk along the paths that I paint. Or I try to image what the landscape behind the hill might look like. When I was herding cows as a child I would always run up to the hill to look into the distance; when I came back the cows had run away and the farmer was angry with me." (Transl. Of quote after ex. cat. Galerie von Abercron, Cologne 1976, p. 8). [KP].
