Little is known about the life of Joachim Henne. He presumably was active for the dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottdorf and the royal court in Copenhagen. It seems he had spent a few years in the Netherlands. This miniature shows the influence of the Leiden painter Gerrit Dou, who is regarded the founding father of Leiden fine painting. In a similar manner, numerous scened by Dou portray scholars, doctors, musicians, cooks and servants and their activities. [CB].
