PROVENANCE: Tore Ring, Cologne (artist's son).

This small and highly expressive work was made in the English POW camp Oswestry/Wales, where Ring was imprisoned in April 1918. With few colors and small pieces of paper he created several strong works that can be regarded as ways to cope with his war trauma. In terms of style, the head study, of which three more versions are in existence, is close to Cubo-Futurism and Pointillism. The artist himself considered them as an "Experiment". [KP].
