Der Boxer Max Schmeling. Um 1928.
Plaster toned in red brown and bordered in bronze.
Cf. Vierneisel 56. This work is a variant of the motif that has been unknown so far. With monogram on plinth. 56 cm (22 in).
Max Schmeling won the title of European Champion in Dortmund in 1927. Ernesto de Fiori, a great boxing fan, made several small sculptures of the sportsman. The athletic body and the controlled powerful motions have been worked out quite remarkably in this plastic. A look at the physiognomy shows how close the artist stuck to the model.
This work is a variant of the motif that has been unknown so far.[EH].

We are grateful to Beatrice Vierneisel for her kind supprt in cataloging this lot.
