Phenomena Prayer Sensation. 1977.
Watercolor.
Signed lower left. Verso once more signed and dated, titled and inscribed "Anatomy of a Cloud". On firm structured board by Arches (with embossing and blindstamp). 106 x 75,5 cm (41,7 x 29,7 in), size of sheet. [KP].

Sensitive work from the important complex "Anatomy of a Cloud" with collages, paintings and works on paper made in the 1970s.

Paul Jenkins is one of the most important representatives of Abstract Expressionism in the USA. He continued his oeuvre over decades with a remarkable consistency. Unlike contemporaries such as Rothko and Noland, he leaves a lot of room for the colors to unfold their physical properties, he allows them to float and mingle. The focus on the colors' independent existence makes for the special appeal of this work. With great poise Jenkins presents various ways of handling color and invites the observer, just as it is the case with many his "Phenomena" pictures, to indulge in his color worlds with great amazement.
