With his works Heinz Mack, the master of reduction, has made his very own spot in modern art sure for himself. Through the artistic integration of light and shade, Mack's objects are taken from their material level of existence and, depending on light incidence, transform to ever new ephemeral creations. It is no longer just the forms' materiality that determines the overall atmosphere, it is the light that delivers the message, as it dematerializes matter, taking it to a new level. The overall effect of his poetic creations changes depending on direction and intensity of light incidence. This way – just as it is the case with this work - they elude any form of concreteness, not only with regards to the choice of subject, and thus allow the observer to participate in an almost metaphysicalart experience.
