Highly stylizede flower picture from the late period of creation.

PROVENANCE: Private collection Southern Germany.

The strong stylization that Gabriele Münter attained in her later works is the expression of her return to earlier works influenced by folk art. Münter began collecting folk art at an early point and adopted these items edas sources of inspiration into her art. Its the small things in life that help Gabriele Münter to create her own reality in the remoteness of her rural residence: flowers, figures and reverse-glass paintings in naive-rural style. She made her own works in this context, unspectacular, seemingly naive, but full of expressive powers. Her later line management still hints at these primal forces of expression from her earlier works. Her late works should be seen as works by a painter who had remained true to herself up to the end of her life.
