LITERATURE: Cf. Volti, préface Geneviève Testanière, Conservateur des Musées du Havre, p. 68, with illu. (presumably wohl anderes Exemplar).

With their massive bodies Volti's sculptures emanate a calm and archaic air. Next to Aristide Maillol he is among those 20th century sculptors that adopt the calm expression of the classic style for its contained graphic volume and the harmonious balance. The sculpture "Les trois grâces" presumably made in the 1960s, adopts sculptural motifs from antiquity and Renaissance works of art which show the three graces in the traditional ancient pose with folded and overlapping arms. Besides ancient Greek and Roman influences, Volti's oeuvre also shows Etruscan art as a source of inspiration.
