Porträt eines Herren mit Monokel. 1912.
Oil on canvas.
Signed and dated upper left. Verso signed and inscribed "Paris", as well as inscribed "19 rue Daguerre" on stretcher. 61 x 49.8 cm (24 x 19.6 in).
Verso with a crossed-out still life in same technique.
The dandy-like depicted person wearing a monocle presumably is the silent movie actor Waldemar Psilander (1884-1917), who had starred in several productions as of 1910. Together with his acting partner Asta Nielsen he soon gained international fame. However, a personal relation between him and Hanns Bolz is not documented.
Intensive and expressive portrait in the artist's characteristic style.
