"E' il personaggio di cui ho bisogno per dare forma alla passione dell'uomo, una cavalcata."
Marino Marini

The small study reveals a lot about the artist's approach. The figures of horseman and horse within a white frame fill the entire sheet. The accentuating black contour lines were reinforced while the paint was still wet, in order to add structure to the picture. The bright blue background makes for a very cheerful overall atmosphere. Our work is documented in Curt Valentin's gallery in New York. He met Marino Marini in 1949 and offered him a grand solo show in New York, as well as a number of other exhibitions that helped the artist to his international breakthrough.
